ACCESSIBILITY

A public record should be possible to read

KORU is being built so that people can read, pause, navigate, and question the record in the way that works for them.

Current access commitments

Primary journeys use semantic headings, standard links and buttons, keyboard-operable moment tabs, visible focus styles, reduced-motion handling, and text alternatives for meaningful images. The visual path is not the only way to understand the content.

What we are checking

  • Keyboard navigation, including Enter and Space for button-like controls
  • Screen-reader announcements when a journey moment changes
  • Text resizing and reflow on mobile and at 200% zoom
  • Contrast for body copy, source labels, progress metadata, and state badges
  • Reduced motion, video pause controls, and still equivalents
  • Clear loading, empty, error, and sign-in states

Known improvement in progress

The public evidence map and monitor plot use custom SVG controls. KORU is adding complete Enter and Space activation, focus treatment, and screen-reader testing for these controls. If a control is difficult to use, the same country file or source should remain available through the table and text links.
